The Lagos State Government has announced the closure of the Independence/Mekwen Bridge (inbound Marina/CMS) for urgent repairs, with traffic diversions in place for two months.
In a statement on Sunday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed that the repair work will commence on Wednesday, March 19, and is expected to be completed by Monday, May 26, 2025.
During this period, vehicular movement will be restricted on the stretch from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) through Bonny Camp Bridge to Independence Bridge.
Additionally, the Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge service lane leading to Independence Bridge will also be inaccessible.
However, motorists can still use the service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue.

Alternative routes have been provided to ease movement:
Drivers travelling to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way should take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, connect to Akin Adesola Street, proceed to Falomo Roundabout, and then use Obafemi Awolowo Road to access Ring Road.
Those heading toward the 3rd Mainland Bridge from Ahmadu Bello Way should follow Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, continue via Akin Adesola Street, and link Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road before connecting to Ring Road.
Motorists bound for Inner Marina and CMS from Ahmadu Bello Way will be rerouted through Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Akin Adesola Street, and Falomo Roundabout, then via Obafemi Awolowo Road to J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road.
Osiyemi assured residents that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage traffic and minimize disruptions throughout the repair period.
