Lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly have disowned Mudashiru Obasa‘s claim that he remains the speaker.

Addressing journalists on Thursday at the Assembly complex, they insisted their allegiance to Mojisola Meranda, insisting that she is the speaker of the assembly.

One of the lawmakers said, “He was not elected as Speaker by his constituency. For nearly a decade, we endured his authoritarian style of leadership. Enough is enough, and we are not backing down.”

Meanwhile, Obasa took charge of a plenary session on Thursday with four lawmakers at the sitting shortly after security operatives allegedly forced open the chamber doors, granting Obasa and his loyalists access.

Among those in attendance with Obasa include Ayinde Akinsanya (Mushin Constituency I) and Noheem Adams (Mushin Constituency II).

The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Stephen Ogundipe, while reacting, described the scenario as chaos.

He said, “This is the Lagos State House of Assembly, and what we are witnessing today is shocking. If there are issues, leadership should address us directly, not resort to this kind of display.”
