Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has pledged a thorough review and necessary action to address any procedural lapses concerning the detention of minors involved in the EndBadGovernance protest.
After the recent remand and subsequent arraignment of several young individuals on November 1, Mr Egbetokun, who was attending the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation committee meeting in Algiers, Algeria, ordered an investigation into the care and welfare of these youths while held in Police detention facilities.
The IGP received the investigative report on Monday while in Glasgow, where he is currently participating in the Interpol General Assembly.
To further promote professionalism in investigations, with a focus on child-friendly approaches, the IGP has summoned all Deputy Commissioners of the Criminal Investigation Department (DCs CID) and Heads of Investigation Units to a conference and workshop on November 7 at the Police Resource Center, Jabi.
