IGP takes over probe

Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife—the organiser of the Ibadan funfairthat claimed the lives of 35 children, has been hospitalised.

Meanwhile,there are fresh indications that the Inspector General of Police(IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, has taken over the investigation into the tragic incident

Earlier, The New Daily Prime reported that the stampede occurred at an Islamic High School in Orita Bashorun, Ibadan.

The event, originally planned for 5,000 children, reportedly exceeded the expectations, with a crowd far surpassing the planned number of invitees

An Ibadan-based journalist, Seun Aribikola, disclosed via Facebook that Naomi, who had been detained alongside seven others by the police, collapsed yesterday.

Aribikola added that she was rushed to the Police Hospital in Eleyele for treatment.

He wrote: “Just In: Tragic Ibadan children’s funfair organizer, Ex-Queen Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi reportedly collapsed at the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID) of the Nigerian Police Force in Iyaganku, Oyo State. She has been rushed to the Police Hospital in Eleyele for medical treatment.”

Meanwhile, a newspaper report said a senior staff member at
confirmed the hospitalisation of Naomi.
The newspaper reported that the Oyo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the lGP’s take over of the probe, during an interview on Channels TV .

Moreover ,the report stated that a high-ranking police source said the IGP was now overseeing the case.

“The IG is now in charge of the case. Anything you want, I think you should call Abuja”the report quoted the source saying.

However, according to the report,the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, declined comment on the matter..
