The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of former Ooni of Ife’s ex-wife, Naomi Silekunola; the Principal of Islamic High School, Ibadan, Fasasi Abdulahi; and six others in connection with the tragic stampede that claimed multiple young lives during a funfair in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Silekunola, identified as the primary sponsor of the event, is among those under investigation. According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, the death toll from the incident has risen to 35, with six other children critically injured.
The event, hosted at Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, was reportedly intended for 5,000 children. However, investigations by NEW DAILY PRIME revealed that over 7,500 attendees overwhelmed the venue, leading to the chaotic stampede.
