Vice President Kashim Shettima has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to deliver urgent relief supplies to the flood-affected population in Borno State.
Acting on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, Mr. Shettima urged NEMA, the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), and the National Refugees Commission, along with other stakeholders, to coordinate efforts with the Borno State Government to address the crisis.
According to The New Daily Prime Monday report, severe flooding displaced numerous residents and caused extensive damage to homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses, leaving many in desperate need of assistance.
The Vice President expressed his sympathy for the millions of displaced individuals and encouraged the victims to view the situation as an act of God, urging resilience in the face of adversity.
“I am here under the directive of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sympathise with you over the unfortunate incident. I want to commend you for your good conduct despite your predicaments. I want to assure you that the government will not forsake you as I have directed all relevant agencies of government such as NEMA, NEDC, and National Refugees Commission, among others, to provide relief materials to cushion your immediate hardship,” Mr Shettima stated.
Mr Shettima announced that the Federal Government approved the delivery of 50 trucks of rice, which are en route to Maiduguri for distribution to the affected victims.
Governor Babagana Zulum also extended his condolences to the victims and assured them that the government would provide full support. He promised that as the situation improved, efforts would be made to help them return to their homes.
