Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has clarified that the Federal Government did not mandate airline operators to purchase Jet A1 fuel exclusively from Dangote Refinery.
Keyamo made this statement during the Renewed Hope Global Virtual Town Hall Conference, themed ‘Elevating Nigeria’s Aviation Strategic Trajectory under the Renewed Hope Administration’, monitored by The New Daily Prime on Saturday.

The Minister emphasized that the government remains committed to maintaining a free-market approach, where transactions are guided by the principle of a willing buyer and a willing seller.
“On the principle of willing buyer, the airline operators independently decided to support a local initiative, the Dangote Refinery. It is only fitting for them, as local operators, to purchase Jet A1 fuel from a local source,” Keyamo explained.
He clarified that this was a decision made solely by the airline operators and was not a directive from the government. “They communicated their desire to me, and I gave them my blessing. However, this is not a federal government policy, but a private initiative by the airline operators,” the Minister concluded.
