It was a day of honour and glory for the late Ondo State,Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, as the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi described him as a leader whose patriotism knew no bounds.
Speaking at the one-year remembrance service held in honour of the late governor yesterday in Akure, Fayemi echoed Akeredolu’s unwavering dedication to the public good and his relentless pursuit of a united, prosperous, and secure Nigeria.
He noted that the late Akeredolu led with conviction, governed with compassion, and inspired everyone he encountered.
Fayemi expressed deep sorrow over the reality of Akeredolu’s untimely passing, which he said left behind unfinished work in the service of the nation.
“It is hard to believe that a year has passed since we lost Aketi, a sagely intellectual, a courageous lawyer, and a devoted nation-builder whose life and legacy remain deeply etched in our hearts,” Fayemi added.
Fayemi, former Minister of Solid Minerals also described the late Akeredolu as an irrepressible advocate for justice, fairness, and equity, who never hesitated to speak the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it might be.
He further noted that the late governor exemplified visionary leadership during his tenure as Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum by spearheading the establishment of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun—a landmark initiative that stands as a testament to his vision and determination.
“As we remember him, we draw strength from the memories of his courage, his wisdom, and his relentless fight for justice. Aketi’s life reminds us of the duty we owe to our communities and our nation to continue the work of building a better Nigeria, as he would have wanted.
“Nigeria has lost a towering figure, Ondo State has lost a beloved son, and I have lost a dear friend. But his legacy endures in the hearts of all who knew and admired him. Rest well, Aketi. You remain irreplaceable.”
