The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called for stronger collaboration with student union leaders from institutions of higher learning across Nigeria in the battle against economic and financial crimes, particularly internet fraud.

This plea was made by EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, during an interactive session with the Student Union Executives of the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State.

Speaking through the Acting Zonal Director of the Commission’s Benin Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Effa Okim, Olukoyede emphasised the importance of student leaders in the fight against internet fraud, which has tarnished the country’s image.

“Let’s work together to combat the menace of economic and financial crimes. As student leaders, you are the future of this nation. We want to harness your energy and strength to build a better Nigeria,” Okim stated.

He further urged the students to avoid internet fraud and other illegal activities.

“Your future is bright if you engage in legitimate endeavours. There are no shortcuts to wealth,” he stressed.

Okim’s message highlighted the pivotal role that student unions could play in raising awareness about the dangers of internet fraud and supporting the EFCC’s efforts to protect Nigeria’s youth from being lured into criminal activity.

He called on the students to take the anti-fraud message back to their campuses.

In response, Agboola Temilehin, SUG President, assured the the anti-graft agency of the union’s commitment to supporting the Commission’s anti-corruption initiatives.
