The early morning presence of the Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki at the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission at about 3.30am on Sunday has generated heated reaction. As the final collation activities were to commence for the Saturday governorship election, it was learnt that Governor Godwin Obaseki arrived at the INEC office around 12:47 am, alongside the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and other supporters to protest alleged irregularities in the collation. The governor proceeded to have a meeting with some officials inside the main building, while Ighodalo and others stayed outside.


Dennis Idahosa, the deputy governorship candidate of the APC, with the National Secretary of the APC, Bashiru Ajibola and other supporters also got to the INEC office around 3:27 am. Demanding the governor’s immediate exit from the office, he shouted loudly, “Obaseki, come outside! You have no business inside the INEC office, He is not supposed to be here. He is not an INEC staff. Nigeria Police should not compromise”
Idahosa repeatedly shouted at the gate until they were allowed into the building by the police. He continued to insist stated that Obaseki had no business being there, especially at that time of the day.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Frank Mbah who was in charge of the election, later arrived at the complex and went straight into the main building and headed to where the governor sat but no one could hear what they discussed.
After the end of the meeting inside the main building, the governor later left without speaking to journalists.
Reports had it that INEC has uploaded 90.33 percent of the results from the Edo governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal.


Amid rising tensions regarding discrepancies in some polling unit results, INEC had in a statement posted on its official X account late Saturday night, assured the public of swift action, vowing to investigate allegations of incorrect figures being entered into result sheets.
