Bayelsa Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to drive job creation – Diri

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has announced that the establishment of the state’s Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy aims to generate job opportunities and empower Bayelsa’s youth within the maritime sector.

In a statement posted on his X page on Monday, Governor Diri described the ministry’s formation as a forward-looking economic policy.

The governor made these remarks while attending an expanded stakeholders’ validation session for the ministry’s draft policy, held at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Governor Diri emphasized his goal to develop the state’s marine potential fully.

“We are not looking back in our move to diversify our economy away from oil and gas. We are open to support, and sustainable partnerships from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and other relevant agencies in actualising this vision.

“Also, to secure our waters and improve the safety of our coastlines, I am pleased to announce the establishment of a task force on marine safety. This task force will work in collaboration with federal agencies, local authorities and industry stakeholders to ensure safety in our maritime domain”, said the governor.

Additionally, he expressed his appreciation for the genuine commitment shown by all stakeholders involved in the validation program.

He appreciated Dayo Mobereola, Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), who honoured the event with his presence.
