Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has approved a new minimum wage of N80,000 for workers in the state.
The governor made this announcement via his X account, emphasising that the decision reflects the pressing economic realities facing the nation.
Governor Diri’s approved wage surpasses the amount previously agreed upon by the federal government and labour unions, marking a significant step toward improving workers’ welfare in the state.
The new minimum wage will come into effect starting in November.
The statement read: “I have just announced the sum of N80,000.00 as the new minimum wage for Bayelsa State workers. It’s deserving when we look at the current economic realities. The new wage takes effect from November 1, 2024. Thanks for your patience.”
