A notorious bandit leader,Dogo Gide and his gang have ordered 23 communities in Tsafe West, located in Zamfara State’s Tsafe Local Government Area, to pay over N100 million in levies.

According to sources, the affected communities have been assigned specific amounts, with the highest levies set at N20 million for Kunchin-Kalgo, N15 million each for Sungawa and Rakyabu, and N10 million for Kwaren Mai-Saje and Magazawa. 

Other villages include Gijin-Zama (₦8.5 million), Giwa (₦7 million), Kauyen Magaji (₦7 million), and Barebari (₦6 million).

The bandits’ demands extended to several other villages, including Unguwar Rogo (₦5 million), Machiya (₦5 million), Katuga (₦5 million), Magazu (₦5 million), Tsageru (₦5 million), Gidan-Anne (₦7 million), Unguwar Dan Halima (₦5 million), Kauyen-Kane (₦5 million), Kurar-Mota (₦6 million), Kibari (₦3 million), Sabon-Garin Bakin Gulbi (₦2.5 million), Karda (₦5 million), Dakolo (₦5 million), and Yalwa (₦2.7 million).

This move has heightened tension in the region as residents scramble to meet the demands, fearing violent reprisals if they fail to comply.

Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dalijan, confirmed the development, but assured the public that security forces had been deployed to the affected areas to maintain order and prevent any attacks.

Dalijan emphasised that no community had been abandoned, and no one had fled their homes despite the threats. He assured that security agencies are committed to protecting the residents’ lives and property.

The increasing use of extortion through levies by bandits has become a major issue in Zamfara, a state plagued by insecurity. 

Residents are urging the government to take stronger action to combat this threat and restore peace.
