The Nigerian Army has called on funseekers to remain vigilant and adopt safety measures during the festive season to ensure a joyous and casualty-free celebration.
Speaking at the “Ikeja Cantonment End of Year Funfair” on Wednesday, December 25, the Commander of the 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Oyekola, highlighted the importance of maintaining safety and security during the Yuletide season.
“As we gather to celebrate the Yuletide season, I urge everyone to exercise caution and prioritise their safety and security,” Brig. Gen. Oyekola said.
“Let us ensure that our festivities are joyful and celebratory, without any casualties or unfortunate incidents. By being mindful of our surroundings and taking necessary precautions, we can create a secure and enjoyable environment for ourselves and our loved ones.”
The cautionary message comes in the wake of three tragic stampedes this year in Ibadan, Oyo State, Anambra State, and Abuja, which claimed over 50 lives.
The end-of-year event, organised at the Ikeja Cantonment, was a festive gathering aimed at providing entertainment and joy to the children and families of military personnel residing in the area.
Approximately 2,500 children participated in the funfair, which featured performances by an emerging artiste, a variety of refreshments, and cash prizes for winners of games.
A heartwarming moment unfolded when the children sang for Brig. Gen. Oyekola, who expressed his gratitude and commended the organisers for creating a memorable experience.
The Nigerian Army continues to emphasise the need for heightened awareness and vigilance during public celebrations, ensuring that all Nigerians can safely enjoy the festivities.
