The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday announced the uncovering of illegal alcohol packaging operators at Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos State.
The regulatory body revealed that during raiding, about 50,000 counterfeit branded labels and packaging materials for fake alcoholic beverages were seized.
The information disclosed that approximately ₦2 billion worth of goods were confiscated.
The anti-food agency said the seized items in the shared documents was used for the production of unapproved and hazardous alcoholic products for the public.
“During the raid, over 50,000 counterfeit branded labels and packaging materials for fake alcoholic beverages, valued at approximately $2 billion, were confiscated. These items were being used to produce unapproved and hazardous alcoholic products,” NAFDAC X handle revealed.
Addressing this, NAFDAC issued a warning as they highlighted the health risk involved in consuming fake alcohols, which can lead to severe health damage, including poisoning and organ damage.
The health agency advised consumers to purchase alcoholic beverages from trusted vendors, urging them to report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
