Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has addressed her previous claims about having “20 boyfriends” before meeting her husband, Nigerian businessman and politician Ned Nwoko.
During a TikTok live session, Daniels said that she had multiple suitors when she first met Nwoko but that her decision to marry him was entirely her own, denying suggestions that she was coerced into the relationship.
The mother of two also encouraged young ladies not to let their present relationships prevent them from meeting their future husbands, vowing to tell her tale in greater detail in the future.
“The moral of the story is that your boyfriend should not stop you from seeing your husband.
“When I started with my husband I forgot I was to have boyfriends; of course, I had like 20. When people think I don’t have a choice, I’m like what?
“People were saying mummy forced me not knowing that she was against the marriage, my full family said no,” she said.
Following the public reaction to her comments, Daniels took to Instagram to clarify her motives behind the statement.
She added that while she had many friends and fans, she committed to staying.
“I want to clarify the ‘20 boyfriend’ issue to soothe my husband and educate young girls,” she wrote. “Having several male friends who are willing to do things for you doesn’t mean you owe them your body. And yes, I did have a lot, but I made a promise to keep my virginity until my marriage—and guess what? I did!”
Earlier this year, Ned Nwoko made news when he stated that he would not marry a lady who was not a virgin, sparking debate on social media.
Nwoko highlighted that while picking a mate, he considers his personal principles and emphasises that he has his own preferences.
He said: “For her particularly, I married her because she is from my place. I wanted to marry a wife from my place, and I was looking for the right person. By the time I met her, I knew she must be the one,” Nwoko had said.
Daniels and Nwoko celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in May, looking back on a “remarkable” five years of love and mutual respect.
Daniels, who married Nwoko at the age of 19, is frequently scrutinised by the public due to their 38-year age difference.
She has freely discussed her decision, stating that she was drawn to his maturity and knowledge.
