Manchester, U.K. – While President Bola Tinubu is on a two-week working vacation in the United Kingdom, reflecting on his administration’s economic reforms, Nigerians across Greater Manchester gathered over the weekend of 5th October to celebrate 64 years of their country’s independence. The event, titled ‘Naija at 64’, was organised by Olusegun Akinosho, also known as Kinshow, attracted a diverse array of attendees.

The event, filled with cultural pride and joy, showcased Nigeria’s vibrant Afrobeat culture through various activities and performances. Leading Nollywood actors and musicians graced the occasion, including Ayobami Oyinkan Ojo (known as Oyita) and Funky Juju superstar Dele Taiwo, both of whom brought lively energy to the celebration. Other performers at the event included Akinslavia, FM Macson, and Ambassador Dugbe.

In addition to the entertainment, several notable political figures attended the event. Among them were Oladimeji Shorinwa, the UK Councillor representing Carrington; Adewale Omoniyi, the former Ogun State governorship candidate from the Young People’s Party; and Otunba Olagoke Oladosu, an aspirant for the 2027 Osun State House of Representatives for Boluwaduro, Ila, and Ifedayo constituencies. Also present were APC chieftain in Manchester, Dr Sanjo Olurebi, as well as Hon. Olarewaju Agbebi, Hon. Ibrahim, Dr Olatuji Busari, and Hon. Tunde Skin.

The gathering also saw participation from members of the Nigeria Stakeholders Manchester group, including Kayode Opaniyi, and other distinguished members of the Exclusive Mature Club, such as Oluwafemi Oluwaleye and Isaac Oladosun.

‘Naija at 64’ was a symbolic event for Nigerians living in the UK, providing a platform to celebrate their heritage, reflect on the nation’s progress, and unite in cultural pride, especially during a time when President Tinubu is also present in the country for personal reflection and governmental duties.
