Afrobeats stars Asake and Wizkid have recorded another major global milestone after their hit collaboration, “MMS,” surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify.
The update was shared on Sunday by music tracking platform TheDebutHub on X. According to the platform, the song has now crossed the 100 million-stream mark, making it one of the Nigerian songs to reach the milestone on Spotify.
The achievement is a major one for both artists. TheDebutHub said “MMS” is Asake’s eighth song to hit 100 million streams across all credits on Spotify. For Wizkid, it is his 17th song to reach the same mark, further strengthening his position as one of Africa’s most streamed music stars.
“MMS” is one of the standout tracks from Asake’s third studio album, “Lungu Boy,” released in August 2024. The album featured several international artists, including Wizkid, Travis Scott, Stormzy, Central Cee and Ludmilla.
The song brings together two different but powerful styles. Asake delivers his energetic Yoruba-influenced sound, while Wizkid adds his smooth and relaxed vocals. The result is a song that has connected with fans in Nigeria, across Africa and among listeners in the diaspora.
The success of “MMS” has gone beyond streaming numbers. The track earned a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. It was nominated alongside songs by Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Tems, and Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay.

Tems eventually won the category with “Love Me JeJe,” but the nomination helped place Asake and Wizkid among African artists whose music received major international recognition that year.
For Asake, the milestone is another sign of his rapid rise in the music industry. Since breaking into the mainstream, he has built a strong identity through street-pop, amapiano influences, Fuji elements and Yoruba lyrics.
His music has helped him build a wide audience at home and abroad. “MMS” now joins the list of songs that have pushed his sound beyond Nigeria’s borders.
For Wizkid, the achievement adds to a career already filled with global streaming records, major collaborations and award recognition. His feature on “MMS” shows that he remains one of the leading voices in Afrobeats, even as younger stars continue to rise.
Fans have also celebrated the milestone on social media. Some described the song as a smash hit, while others praised the chemistry between both artists. Many also noted that the 100 million-stream mark shows how far Nigerian music has travelled on global platforms.
The milestone comes at a time when Afrobeats continues to attract strong international attention. Nigerian artists are reaching wider audiences through streaming platforms, world tours, award nominations and collaborations with global stars.
Streaming has become one of the clearest signs of that growth. A song crossing 100 million streams on Spotify shows strong fan support and long-term replay value.
Asake and Wizkid have also continued to build on their musical partnership. Their joint project, “Real, Vol. 1,” released in January 2026, gave fans more music from the two stars and strengthened public interest in their collaboration.
However, the success of “MMS” remains one of the strongest signs of their connection. It has moved from being a popular album track to becoming one of the Nigerian records recognised for major international streaming performance.
For Afrobeats, the milestone is another reminder that Nigerian music is no longer limited to local audiences. It is now part of the global sound, with artists such as Asake and Wizkid helping to shape how African music is heard around the world.
