Activist and ally of Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, has withdrawn from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial race for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Yesufu had on May 6 declared her intention to contest the 2027 FCT senate seat after defecting to the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
At the time, she said her decision to run was inspired by the political and leadership experience she gained while in the ADC.
However, recent reports suggested that the party had decided to hand the FCT senate ticket to another aspirant, Amanda Pam, who had been in the party before Yesufu joined.

In a statement released on Friday, Yesufu confirmed that the party would not be conducting primaries for the FCT senatorial seat, effectively ending her ambition for the position.
“Our party has decided not to conduct primaries for the Senatorial seat in FCT Abuja. It however intends to conduct primaries for House of Representatives! Go ahead and make your choice known!” she said.
The activist urged her supporters to remain calm and focus on broader political goals ahead of the 2027 general election.
“I urge each and everyone of you to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture which is the presidential election. Nigeria will be OK!” she added.
Yesufu also thanked supporters for backing her senatorial ambition under the #AishaForSenate campaign.
“I appreciate all your support, dedication and commitment towards #AishaForSenate project,” she said.
She added that she would continue engaging residents across the six area councils of the FCT as part of her advocacy for improved governance and development.
“In the coming week I will be returning back to all the 6 Area Councils God willing to appreciate them for the warm welcome and continue to forge ahead for a #BetterFCT,” she stated.
