Honourable Joshua Audu Gan, a Member of the House of Representatives representing the Lavun/Mokwa/Edati Federal Constituency of Niger State, has won the nomination for the Distinguished Legislative Service Award as the Most Distinguished House of Representatives Member for 2025. He was nominated alongside the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas. The nomination was announced by New Daily Prime, a UK-based newspaper with growing influence across Europe and the United States.

The recognition is rooted in his achievements and sustained, people-centred service, with particular emphasis on his intervention during the devastating floods that affected Mokwa in Niger State and Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State. The flooding led to loss of lives and widespread destruction of homes, farmlands and personal property. At a critical moment, Honourable Gana mobilised relief efforts and engaged directly with the federal government and affected communities, providing support that many residents say eased immediate hardship and restored a sense of government presence.

Beyond emergency response, the nomination reflects a broader record of achievements within his constituency. These include the provision of clean water through newly drilled hand-held water pumps and the rehabilitation of damaged facilities, efforts aimed at improving public health and reducing the daily burden of water scarcity. In other areas, submersible and solar-powered boreholes were installed to ensure a more sustainable water supply.
Electricity infrastructure also received attention. By facilitating the repair and rehabilitation of faulty transformers in key villages, Honourable Gan helped restore power supply to households, artisans and small businesses. Community leaders have linked these efforts to improved economic activity and social life in previously underserved areas.

He also provided more than 150 solar street-light poles across several communities in Lavun, Mokwa and Edati Federal Constituency, Niger State. Beneficiary communities include Pati Shaba Kolo, Pati Emistuzhimo, Pati Emistwanya, Pati Gongi, Pati Emiworo, Pati Emicace, Nku Tifin and Tako, Baje, Tama, Nupeko, Egagi, Bannimda, Mambe Tifin and Tako Goga, Koso, and the Kuchi Woro area.

His humanitarian and social welfare programmes extended beyond infrastructure. Cash support was provided to vulnerable individuals, while religious institutions received financial assistance aimed at strengthening community cohesion. In education, his contributions included classroom construction, the donation of writing and learning materials to public schools, and broader support for learning environments in both urban and rural settlements.
Women and youth empowerment formed a core part of his constituency agenda. Dozens of women were trained and equipped with sewing and grinding machines to support small-scale enterprise and household income. Farmers also benefited from agricultural inputs and equipment, alongside irrigation support intended to improve productivity and resilience, especially during the dry season.

Healthcare interventions, though often carried out quietly, proved significant for beneficiaries. These included payment for surgeries, provision of drugs, settlement of hospital bills, and support for enrolment into healthcare programmes, reducing the financial burden on families facing medical emergencies.
At the institutional level, Honourable Gan has gained recognition for his advocacy on democratic development and reform. His call for improved funding for the National Orientation Agency to strengthen grassroots voter education, as well as his push for specialised courts to handle election petitions, reflects a commitment to improving the credibility and efficiency of Nigeria’s electoral process.
The nomination forms part of a broader effort to spotlight public officials whose influence is measured by service delivery and institutional contribution rather than rhetoric. Honourable Gan’s record stands out for its balance of emergency response, long-term development and national advocacy.
