The Nkpolu Police Division, Mile 3 Diobu, under the Rivers State Police Command, has commenced investigation into the alleged defilement of two minorsan 11-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy by a man identified as Pasca, said to be about 45 years old.
It was gathered that the investigation followed separate formal complaints lodged at the division by the parents of the two children.
The complainants are Mrs Ada, mother of the 10-year-old boy, and Mr Alex, father of the 11-year-old girl. The suspect is reported to be a resident of the Pipeline axis of Egbelu in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Speaking to journalists, a human rights advocate and National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Mr Prince Wiro, confirmed that the case was reported to him by the parents of the affected children.
According to him, the father of the girl alleged that the suspect, described as his friend and former neighbour at Christ Apostolic Street, Mile 3 Diobu, had repeatedly defiled the child since she was 10 years old.
He claimed that the suspect allegedly took advantage of his absence while at work to gain access to the girl, and at times took her to his residence in Egbelu where the alleged acts occurred.
Mr Wiro further disclosed that the mother of the 10-year-old boy became alarmed after her son complained of persistent pains. Upon questioning, the boy reportedly revealed that he had been sexually abused by the same suspect over a period of about six months.
He said he accompanied the parents and children to the Nkpolu Police Division, where medical examination forms were issued, and the children were taken to hospital for examination.
Commending the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for what he described as a thorough handling of the matter, Mr Wiro called for a comprehensive investigation. He also criticised some individuals claiming to be members of a landlords’ association in the Egbelu area for allegedly attempting to mediate the matter rather than handing the suspect over to the police.
According to him, the group reportedly convened a meeting between the parents and the suspect in a bid to resolve the issue, but the suspect failed to attend the meeting and has not been seen since.
However, as of the press time, the Command is yet to reacts to the matter.
According to Revelation Agents report, the suspect, Mr Pasca, claimed that he was already making efforts to settle the matter with one of the children’s parents. During the exchange, he reportedly suggested offering financial compensation to the mother of the boy.
However, more revelation disclosed the father of the 11-year-old girl, denied any form of settlement with the suspect and maintained that he was seeking justice through lawful means.
Police investigation into the allegations is ongoing.
