The Osun State Government has clarified that the issuance of appointment letters to the first batch of newly recruited teachers is ongoing, dismissing reports that senior government officials are deliberately stalling the process.
The clarification was issued on Tuesday by the Spokesperson to the Governor, Olawale Rasheed, via a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. Rasheed was responding to media reports alleging that the Head of Service and the Chief of Staff to the Governor were delaying the release of appointment letters due to financial considerations.
According to Rasheed, the claims are false and misleading, stressing that the two officials named in the reports are, in fact, working actively to ensure the successful completion of the first phase of the recruitment exercise.
He explained that the perceived delay was mainly due to funding challenges arising from the implementation of the new national minimum wage. Still, he emphasised that the relevant government agencies are already processing Governor Ademola Adeleke’s directive to issue appointment letters.
“Media reports that the Head of Service and the Chief of Staff are blocking the release of letters of appointment are false,” Rasheed said. “The said top officials are actually working hard to ensure the first phase of the exercise is completed.”
The spokesperson further disclosed that the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) are both involved in the recruitment process. He said the two agencies are working under the Ministry of Education, through the Office of the Chief of Staff, to ensure that newly recruited teachers are distributed correctly in line with workforce needs.
Rasheed noted that the government is taking deliberate steps to avoid administrative errors and ensure that teachers are deployed appropriately across primary and secondary schools in the state.
He also urged media organisations to exercise professionalism by seeking official clarification before publishing reports that could distort facts or cast aspersions on public officers carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
“The Osun State Government urges media organisations to seek official clarification before publishing reports capable of distorting facts or casting aspersions on public officers who are diligently performing their constitutional duties,” he stated.
Rasheed assured members of the public that the recruitment process remains ongoing and that updates will be communicated through official government channels as milestones are achieved.
He reaffirmed the Adeleke-led administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, improving teaching standards, and fulfilling its campaign promises to the people of Osun State.
“The recruitment process is ongoing, and the public will be duly informed through official channels as milestones are reached. The Adeleke-led administration remains focused on delivering good governance, strengthening education, and fulfilling its promises to the people of Osun State,” he added.
