Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will not permit himself to be “buried politically” in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, amid escalating tensions with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking yesterday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Okrika Local Government Area as part of his thank-you tours across the state, Wike warned that allowing Fubara to secure a second term would spell the end of his own political influence.

“We have made a decision as far as Tinubu is concerned. The other one Fubara no way,” he stated emphatically. “Because if we make another mistake, then we will go and bury ourselves politically. I will not allow myself to be buried.”
The remarks underscore the deepening rift between Wike, a former Rivers governor who played a pivotal role in Fubara’s emergence in 2023, and the incumbent.
Wike has repeatedly described his support for Fubara as a “leadership mistake” that must be corrected in 2027, promising to reveal details of alleged breached political agreements.

The feud has intensified since Fubara’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move Wike dismissed as insufficient to guarantee re-election.
The minister insisted that political commitments must be honoured and cautioned against repeating past errors that have sidelined other leaders.
Wike also urged traditional rulers, including King Ateke Tom of Okochiri Kingdom, to remain neutral in the impending political contests, emphasising the need for peace in the oil-rich state.
