Real Madrid and Spain right-back Dani Carvajal has been successfully operated upon. The right-back underwent knee surgery under the club’s medical team’s supervision after suffering a serious injury to his ACL during a league game against Villarreal last weekend.
The Spain international picked up eight appearances for Madrid in La Liga before his injury. He was subsequently diagnosed with a ruptured ACL, a ruptured ECL and a ruptured poplietus tendon. The 32-year-old is set for a long absence which will cover the rest of the season and possibly extend over a year. His recovery will be closely monitored by the club’s medical team in view to get him back in action as soon as possible without any complications. Madrid announced that they had extended the defender’s contract until June 2026 not long after his injury.
In his absence, Carlo Ancelotti will depend on Lucas Vasquez to fill in for Carvajal at right back and the Los Blancos may search the market for a reliable free agent to deputize Vasquez. However, the European champions may wait for the winter transfer window to get a replacement more suitable in the long term.
The Spaniard has been with the Madrid first team since 2013 and has won 26 titles with the team including six Champions League titles. Ancelotti’s men are second on the La Liga table trailing behind rivals Barcelona.
Carvajal was at Spain’s international camp during the week to visit his teammates in the national team ahead of their Saturday fixture against Denmark. He was instrumental in Spain’s victory at the Euro Championship in the summer.
