Public servants in Ondo State are to resume duties on Monday, January 5, 2026, following a work-free day granted by the State Government.
The announcement was made by the Head of Service, Bayo Philip, following a State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Wednesday.
The additional work-free day on Friday, January 2, is intended to allow workers sufficient time to return from their New Year travels.

The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Abiola Olawoye, revealed that the cabinet has approved several critical road projects to boost rural connectivity and economic activities.
The newly approved projects include the Aboto/Atijere Road, a 24-kilometre stretch aimed at opening up coastal trade routes, and the Sabomi Road, a one-kilometre strategic link in the Ese-Odo Local Government Area.
Olawoye noted that these approvals are part of the governor’s broader mandate to ensure no community is left behind in the state’s infrastructural renewal.
In a major policy move, the state government has approved a new Tax Bill for submission to the House of Assembly.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Olukayode Ajulo, stated that the bill aims to harmonize Ondo’s fiscal policies with the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, which takes effect nationwide on January 1.
The bill is designed to promote efficiency by streamlining tax collection through digital transparency.
It also aims to support small businesses by providing targeted relief for low-income earners and small and medium-sized enterprises.
In addition, the legislation seeks to synchronise standards and ensure that the state remains competitive within the evolving national tax framework.
The council also addressed traditional leadership vacancies.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, announced the historic appointment of Owei Kekemeke as the pioneer Amananawei of Agadagda-Obon in Ese-Odo LG.
Additionally, the government approved warrant chiefs for the Alade Okun of Alade in Idanre, paving the way for the immediate installation of a new king.
Takuro reaffirmed the government’s readiness to fill all vacant stools across the state once communities complete their internal selection processes.
