The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sharply criticised Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, accusing him of anti-party activities after he reportedly declared himself the “number one supporter” of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presumptive presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
In a press statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP described Wike’s remarks during his end-of-year media chat in Port Harcourt as confirming the grounds for his earlier expulsion from the party.

“By his end-of-year media chat, Minister Nyesom Wike has reiterated his support for, and in fact declared that he is the ‘number one supporter’ of the presumptive candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 Presidential election, while remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement read. It labelled this stance a “locus classicus of anti-democratic adventurism.”
The PDP portrayed Wike as a longstanding “agent provocateur” who thrives on conflict to advance personal interests.
It recounted his alleged role in multiple leadership crises since becoming Rivers State Governor in 2015, including backing and later opposing national chairmen such as Ali Modu Sheriff, Uche Secondus, and Iyorchia Ayu.
Within Rivers State, the party accused him of imposing candidates, exclusionary practices, and barring a PDP presidential candidate from campaigning in the state during past elections.
The statement further claimed Wike and allies, including Sam Anyanwu, had struck a “clandestine agreement” to undermine the PDP in exchange for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. It warned that such deals for illegal purposes were unenforceable.

Despite these challenges, the PDP expressed confidence in its future, assuring Nigerians it would present a credible candidate to win in 2027.
It highlighted efforts by the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee to rebuild the party, resolve court issues, and prepare for electoral success.
Wike, who has reaffirmed his PDP membership while expressing support for Tinubu, has yet to respond directly to the latest accusations.
