Former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intensify their grassroots mobilisation for the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, warning against complacency despite the “weak opposition” in the state.
He spoke at an annual end-of-year get-together for APC leaders at his Isan-Ekiti country home.
Fayemi emphasised that the governor’s “superlative performance” over the last three years must be matched by a powerful political campaign to ensure a resounding victory on June 20, 2026.

While acknowledging that the Oyebanji administration has effectively made Ekiti a “one-party state” through inclusive governance and visible achievements, Fayemi stressed that victory requires hard work rather than assumptions.
“We must redouble our efforts, even if Governor Oyebanji is the only one on the ballot on June 20, 2026—which I know he is not—don’t let us underrate any party,” Fayemi stated.
“Let’s go to the poll with all the energy and mobilisation we can muster and make the victory a resounding one.”
He urged party members to close ranks by maintaining internal discipline and unity, intensify their campaigns through door-to-door engagements across all wards, and actively project the achievements of the current administration by communicating its development strides.
In his response, Oyebanji expressed gratitude to Fayemi and the party leadership for their guidance.
Having already emerged as the sole candidate for the APC following the party’s primaries in October 2025, Oyebanji urged members to approach the general election as a united front.
“God has delivered us from the crisis of primaries; let’s approach the June 20, 2026, election with all the energy we have conserved,” the governor said.
He noted that a united party would send a “strong signal of confidence and readiness” to the electorate.
The meeting was attended by a broad spectrum of political leaders who praised the administration’s impact.
The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, noted the legislative harmony that had driven the state’s progress.

Senate Spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, highlighted the party’s improved fortunes, attributing them to effective service delivery.
Meanwhile, the State APC Chairman, Sola Elesin, affirmed the party’s readiness for the upcoming contest.
Also present were the Wife of the former Governor, Bisi Fayemi, members of the National and State Assemblies, local council chairmen, and ward executives, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to the “BAO 2026” project.
