The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the direct distribution of relief materials to residents and communities impacted by the 2025 flood disaster in the Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency of Anambra State.
The distribution exercise, which was flagged off on Friday, was conducted by the NEMA Enugu Operations Office in collaboration with the Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS).
The joint NEMA and Red Cross team was received by the member representing the constituency, Gwacham Chinwe, alongside community leaders.

Following their arrival, the lawmaker joined the team in a formal inspection of the relief items, confirming the quality and condition of the supplies provided by the Federal Government (FG).
Representing the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, the Head of NEMA Enugu Operations Office, Ngozi Echeazu, represented by Ezeani Nnanyelugo, expressed deep empathy for the affected population.
She emphasised that the FG remains committed to the welfare of citizens, noting that the intervention was designed to ameliorate the suffering caused by the significant losses during the floods.
The humanitarian support package delivered to the victims included essential food items to provide immediate nutritional relief.
The items distributed were rice, garri, spaghetti, tomato paste, vegetable oil, seasoning, salt, and other condiments.
In her remarks, Chinwe commended the NEMA Director-General for her proactive approach to disaster management.
She lauded the agency’s commitment to sensitisation, advocacy, and swift intervention during emergencies.
The lawmaker urged beneficiaries to maintain order, promising that the items would be distributed equitably and transparently.
Echoing this sentiment, Maduka Harold, the Oyi Leader of Thought, delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of the communities.
He expressed profound gratitude to the FG and NEMA for providing the necessary humanitarian support to those most in need.
The exercise concluded with the successful handover of the relief materials to the identified beneficiaries under the supervision of the joint team and local leaders.
