Former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has officially announced his retirement from international football.
He announced on Wednesday via his social media platform.
Reflecting on his journey with the national team, Musa expressed pride in his years of service, revealing that he represented Nigeria for 15 years, starting as a 17-year-old and rising to become the most capped Super Eagles player with 111 appearances.
He highlighted his achievements, including winning the Africa Cup of Nations, becoming Nigeria’s highest goalscorer at the FIFA World Cup, and leading the team as captain.
“I wore this badge with pride for 15 years. From a 17-year-old boy answering every call to becoming the most capped Super Eagle with 111 appearances. AFCON champion. Nigeria’s highest World Cup goalscorer. Captain. Servant. Believer. I gave everything. Thank you Nigeria… my heart will always beat green,” Musa wrote on X.

Musa currently serves as the General Manager of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Kano Pillars.
The 33-year-old made his Super Eagles debut on 5 September 2010 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar. He was also a key member of the squad that lifted the 2013 AFCON trophy in South Africa.
Musa remains the only Nigerian player to score more than one goal in a single FIFA World Cup match. Over the course of his international career, he scored 16 goals for the Super Eagles.
At club level, Musa featured for several teams including JUTH FC, Kano Pillars, VVV-Venlo, CSKA Moscow, Leicester City, Al-Nassr, Fatih Karagümrük, Sivasspor, before returning to Kano Pillars.
