Nigerian singer Fireboy DML has opened up about how he views public rankings and opinions about his music, saying he is more focused on his fans than industry lists or comparisons.
The Peru hitmaker shared his thoughts during a recent episode of the 90s Baby podcast, where he explained that he does not concern himself with debates around “Top 5” or “Top 10” artists.
According to him, such rankings do not define his worth or success as a musician.

Fireboy stressed that what truly matters to him is how his fans connect with his music. He said their support gives him a strong sense of fulfillment and reassurance about his career.
“I don’t really care about Top 5 or Top 10, as long as I have fans who rate me,” he said. “I know that I have fans that think I’m the best artiste in the whole world, and that is good enough for me.”
The singer added that he is satisfied with where he is in his career and does not feel pressured to compete for validation.
He described himself as a contented person who values genuine appreciation over constant comparison.
Fireboy DML rose to fame under Olamide’s YBNL label and has since built a strong fan base with hits like Jealous, Vibration, Tattoo, and Peru.
His music style, which blends Afrobeats with soulful and melodic sounds, has earned him loyal listeners both in Nigeria and abroad.
Industry observers say Fireboy’s comments reflect a growing shift among artistes who prioritize fan connection and long-term impact over chart positions and online debates.
In an era where social media often fuels rivalry and ranking culture, his stance highlights a more personal and grounded approach to success.
For Fireboy, the message is clear: as long as his music continues to resonate with the people who love it, external ratings will never matter as much.
