Popular Nigerian comedian Basketmouth reacted to the recent fight between social media critic VeryDarkMan and comedian Mr Jollof, describing the incident as “embarrassing” and a sign of declining public conduct.
New Daily Prime reported that both men were detained by the Delta State Police Command on Monday, November 17, 2025, after engaging in a physical fight inside a United Nigeria Airlines aircraft.
The altercation, which was captured on video by passengers, showed the two men exchanging blows while other travellers attempted to separate them.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, Basketmouth said he was shocked that the fight took place inside a plane, a restricted and tight environment where such behaviour could endanger others. He questioned how public disputes had escalated to this level.
“Like everybody else, I just saw the video of Mr Jollof and VDM fighting in a public space, not just any public place, but inside a plane,” he said. “As plane tight reach, these grown men still find space dey fight. And I asked myself, how did we get here?”
Basketmouth used the opportunity to revisit his long-standing feud with fellow comedian AY Makun. He said their disagreement, despite lasting many years, never reached a point where they exchanged punches.
“Me and AY get issues for a long time, but it never got to the point that me and him go start to exchange punches,” he said. “How embarrassing is this? Why can’t we just live in love and peace?”
He urged Nigerians, especially public figures, to avoid violence and behave responsibly in public. He emphasised that disagreements were normal but should never lead to physical attacks, especially in spaces where people’s safety and schedules could be affected.
The clash between VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof followed months of online tension. New Daily Prime earlier reported that the two men became sworn enemies after VeryDarkMan accused Mr Jollof’s wife of having affairs with politicians and Yahoo boys. According to him, she allegedly did so to help her husband secure a political appointment in Delta State.
The allegation sparked outrage, and the couple responded by filing a ₦500 million defamation lawsuit against VeryDarkMan. The issue escalated into a heated online rivalry, with both men trading insults across social media platforms.
The conflict finally spilt into the physical realm when the two boarded the same United Nigeria Airlines flight from Asaba to Lagos. Words were exchanged, and the argument quickly turned violent. Passengers said the fight caused a delay and created panic inside the aircraft.
After the detention, both men released public apologies on Instagram. They acknowledged that their behaviour was irresponsible and caused unnecessary distress to passengers and airline staff.
Despite the apologies, the incident continued to generate reactions across social media, with many Nigerians calling for greater restraint among public figures.
Basketmouth ended his video by urging fans to choose peace over conflict. He said public figures had a responsibility to set good examples and avoid actions that could embarrass the entertainment industry or the country.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed that both men had been questioned and released but said the investigation into the incident was ongoing.
