Nigerian Afrobeats star Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has offered fans a rare glimpse into his love life, describing his dating experience as “chaotic.”
The 28-year-old singer, known for his soulful blend of Afrobeats and R&B, made the revelation during a recent episode of the Reprezent Podcast, where he spoke candidly about relationships, love, and how his experiences with women influence his music.
Speaking about the inspiration behind his hit song “Ashawo”, Fireboy explained that it mirrors the complexities of dating in Lagos, which he described as “a mess.”

“In my song ‘Ashawo’ I was trying to paint a picture of what the dating scene is like in Lagos, where I live. It’s a mess,” the Peru crooner said.
The award-winning artist noted that his song, though light-hearted on the surface, was inspired by the real struggles and emotional chaos that often define relationships in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
“It is chaotic. But I thrive with girls,” he continued, adding with a chuckle, “When I’m under pressure, I usually find balance in girls.”
Fireboy’s remarks quickly sparked reactions on social media, with many fans relating to his depiction of the Lagos dating culture, which is often characterised by emotional unpredictability, double dating, and complex social dynamics.
The singer, who rose to fame under YBNL Nation, the record label founded by rapper Olamide, has long been known for infusing his personal experiences into his music. Songs like “Jealous,” “Tattoo,” and “Like I Do” have earned him a reputation for emotional honesty and vulnerability.
In past interviews, Fireboy admitted that he often draws creative inspiration from relationships, heartbreak, and emotional turbulence. He once revealed that he was even looking forward to experiencing a “heartbreak” to deepen the emotional depth of his songwriting.
“I want to fall in love and have my heart broken so I can make more genuine music,” he had said in a previous interview, hinting at the emotional connection between love and creativity in his work.
Despite his openness about love and relationships in his songs, Fireboy has managed to keep his personal life largely private.
The Vibration singer has not publicly confirmed being in a relationship or dating anyone.
Since debuting with his breakout album “Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps” in 2019, Fireboy DML has become one of the most influential young voices in Afrobeats, earning international recognition with hits like “Peru” (featuring Ed Sheeran) and “Bandana” (with Asake).
His ability to blend emotional depth with catchy rhythms has made him a standout figure in Nigeria’s music scene, and his candid reflection on love continues to resonate with fans who see themselves in his stories.
As Fireboy puts it, the chaos of love may be difficult to navigate, but for him, it remains a powerful source of balance and inspiration.
