The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has called on party leaders and members to remain united and committed to the task of rebuilding and rescuing Nigeria, beginning from the opposition.
Damagum made the call on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge, where he addressed members of the Board of Trustees and other senior party stakeholders.
He said the PDP must demonstrate internal discipline and unity ahead of its planned national convention in Ibadan, which has been the subject of conflicting court rulings.

“We do not have to be in power to begin our mission to rescue, redirect, and rebuild this country. That mission begins right here, in opposition. You must remain committed to the ideals of our party,” Damagum said.
The PDP convention had earlier been halted by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, who ruled that the party failed to comply with its constitutional procedures in notifying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, reprieve came on Tuesday when Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court ordered that the PDP could proceed with the convention, directing INEC to monitor the exercise.
Damagum praised Justice Akintola for his “courage and fairness,” saying the ruling had restored confidence in the party’s internal democratic process.
“We commend Justice Akintola for demonstrating exemplary bravery, which has paved the way for our convention. This is the time for unity and renewed focus on our collective vision for Nigeria,” he said.
