A four-member delegation from the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday arrived in Anambra State to evaluate preparations for the state’s governorship election scheduled for 8 November 2025.
The delegation, led by INEC National Commissioner in charge of Election Planning and Monitoring, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, includes the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun; the Supervising Officer for Anambra, Dr. Kenneth Ukeagu; and the Chairman of the Electoral Operations and Logistics Committee, Dr. Baba Bila.
They were received at the INEC state headquarters in Awka by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, and other senior officials.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists, Olumekun said the commission had developed a detailed operational plan addressing logistics, technology, training, stakeholder engagement, and security.

“The commission’s level of readiness is both practical and measurable. All non-sensitive materials have been delivered to the state, while sensitive materials will arrive in due course under strict security arrangements,” he stated.
He explained that the delegation’s visit included meetings with stakeholders, mock accreditation exercises, and a comprehensive review of preparations to reaffirm INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
As part of their field assessment, the team visited Dunukofia (Anambra Central) and Oyi (Anambra North) Local Government Areas to inspect the batching of non-sensitive materials and monitor the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards in Ukpo and Nteje.
After the inspection, the delegation expressed satisfaction with progress made, commending INEC staff and residents for their cooperation, and urging voters to remain patient, peaceful, and law-abiding.
The team is also scheduled to meet with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, engage transport unions, and oversee a mock accreditation exercise before concluding its mission.
Resident Electoral Commissioner Agwu assured that all materials would arrive polling units on time, including those in riverine areas.
“The commission has provided funds and boats to convey officers and materials. With our schedule, there will be no late arrivals on election day,” she said.
