An Afghan migrant who entered the UK illegally by small boat has been sentenced to five years in prison for threatening to kill Reform UK leader Nigel Farage in a social media post.
Fayaz Khan, 26, who prosecutors said was likely a 31-year-old named Fayaz Husseini, was convicted at Southwark Crown Court of making threats to kill the MP for Clacton.
He was also handed an additional eight-month sentence, to run concurrently, for entering the UK illegally.
Recall that the NewDaily Prime had earlier published that Khan posted a TikTok video in which he made gun gestures, pointed to an AK-47 tattoo on his face, and threatened to “pop, pop, pop” Farage.
The clip, shared under the username madapasa, followed a YouTube video Farage had posted days earlier showing Khan’s Channel crossing, which the politician described as “the journey of an illegal migrant.”
Farage, who described the threat as pretty chilling, said outside court that Khan’s jailing was a win and called him a violent criminal.
Prosecutor Peter Ratliff told the court that Khan had livestreamed his Channel crossing to hundreds of thousands of viewers and likely used a false identity due to his criminal record in Sweden, where he had 17 prior convictions, including knife possession and threats to a public servant.
During the trial, jurors heard how Khan said he wanted to marry Farage’s sister before threatening him, while making gun gestures and headbutting the camera. His defence lawyer told the court that Khan wanted to apologise for any distress caused.
Nicholas Coates of the Crown Prosecution Service said the case sent a clear message: “Elected politicians must be able to carry out their jobs free from fear of harm or abuse. Those who seek to intimidate them will face the full force of the law.”
