Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has affirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the new South-West Development Commission (SWDC), stating the body is vital for accelerating regional growth and closing existing developmental gaps.
Aiyedatiwa made the pledge on Saturday at a thanksgiving ceremony held in honour of Jide Martins Adewinle, the newly appointed Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State on the SWDC.

The governor lauded President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Commission, describing it as a “laudable step” to tackle developmental disparities and unlock the South-West’s economic potential through infrastructural renewal, industrialisation, and youth empowerment.
He expressed confidence that with effective leadership, the SWDC would serve as a powerful catalyst for economic and social transformation.
Congratulating Adewinle, Aiyedatiwa stressed that the appointment was a reward for competence, hard work, and consistent community service.
He urged the new Commissioner to demonstrate diligence, integrity, and accountability, assuring that the Ondo State Government would work closely with the SWDC to ensure the state’s residents receive maximum benefits from its projects.
However, Adewinle expressed gratitude to the President and Aiyedatiwa, promising to justify the confidence placed in him.
He stated that the SWDC’s mandate to promote regional development—focusing on education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment—was a continuation of the visionary blueprint established by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Adewinle confirmed that the Commission will initiate region-focused projects to boost economic fortunes and create jobs across the South-West.
