President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday reopened and unveiled the newly renovated Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Arts Theatre, in Lagos.
The President arrived at the venue at approximately 6:24 p.m. for the ceremony marking the transformation and official reopening of the iconic cultural landmark.

The extensive renovation of the edifice was funded and overseen by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in partnership with the Bankers’ Committee.
The Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy played a crucial role by providing the necessary policy direction and oversight to guide the facility’s transformation into a national asset intended to serve as a major launchpad for Nigeria’s creative industries.
The building was renamed in July 2024 by Tinubu in honor of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had previously emphasised the multifaceted role of the revamped facility.
During an inspection in August 2024, the governor stated that the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts is intended to serve not only as a hub for arts, tourism, and culture but also as a venue for international conferences and world-class performances.
“This facility will serve as a premier destination, comparable to any world class conference center, with a unique infusion of arts and culture,” governor Sanwo-Olu had remarked.
