Ademola Lookman produced a standout performance as Atalanta battled from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Belgian champions Club Brugge in their UEFA Champions League Group Stage clash on Tuesday night at the Gewiss Stadium.
The Nigerian international, who was handed his first start of the season by head coach Ivan Juric, seized the opportunity with a lively display that underlined his importance to La Dea.
Lookman’s sharp movement and direct attacking threat kept the visitors’ defence constantly on edge, while his link-up play gave Atalanta an extra dimension in the final third.

Atalanta had to dig deep after Nicky Hayen’s Brugge side opened the scoring midway through the first half, capitalising on a defensive lapse.
But the hosts responded with resilience, gradually asserting control of the game before turning the tide in their favour.
Goals from Gianluca Scamacca and Mario Pašalić ensured the Serie A outfit claimed their first win of the campaign, delighting the home supporters in Bergamo.
It was not just Lookman who drew praise after the contest. Centre-back Ederson Silva, returning from a spell on the sidelines through injury, also made a welcome contribution to the side.
The Brazilian slotted back into the heart of defence with composure, helping steady Atalanta after their shaky opening minutes.
Speaking after the game, Juric expressed his satisfaction with the performances of both players, highlighting their quality and commitment.
“They’re quality players,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia. “They’ve been training well with us for some time, and I felt today was the right opportunity for them to start. They responded in the best possible way, and that’s important for the team moving forward.”
Lookman and Ederson have become increasingly vital figures for Atalanta over the past two seasons, offering consistency and reliability whenever called upon.
For Lookman, this appearance marked an encouraging step toward regaining a regular starting berth, while Ederson’s recovery strengthens a defensive unit that will be heavily tested in both Serie A and the Champions League.
