The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a stern directive to its members, urging those with affiliations to other political parties to resign immediately in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, during a press briefing in Abuja yesterday following a high-profile caucus meeting attended by key party leaders.
Abdullahi clarified that while the caucus had issued a final order for members to relinquish memberships in other parties, no specific deadline was set.
The meeting, which included prominent figures such as National Chairman David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi, underscored the ADC’s resolve to consolidate its ranks.
The caucus also confirmed that all matters concerning the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), a previously considered platform, have been resolved, with the coalition focusing solely on the ADC.
“The Coalition has rested everything concerning the ADA. They are not interested in its registration or otherwise,” Abdullahi stated.
In the 2027 presidential race, Abdullahi revealed that the ADC’s presidential aspirants have pledged to support the winner of the party’s primaries, fostering unity within the coalition.
Additionally, the National Working Committee (NWC) is set to announce dates for primaries in Osun and Ekiti for the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections.
Notably, Labour Party leader Peter Obi was absent but sent apologies, reaffirming his commitment to the ADC-led coalition.
The directive signals the ADC’s intent to streamline its membership and present a united front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, as the party intensifies its preparations.
