The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Deputy Governorship candidate in Anambra state, Ndubuisi Nwobu, has criticised Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his handling of insecurity since assuming office in 2022.
Nwobu alleged that Soludo’s administration has failed to adequately support conventional security agencies in combating crime across the state.
Speaking to journalists in Awka, Nwobu claimed that the governor has not provided even basic resources, such as a bicycle, to empower the police or other security outfits.
“No conventional security agency in the state has been empowered to fight insecurity. Instead, the governor is arming makeshift recruits with guns,” he stated.
Nwobu further criticised Soludo’s recent initiative, the Agunechemba security outfit, launched earlier this year, accusing it of contributing to frequent cases of brutality against citizens.
He described the outfit as comprising “ragtag” operatives equipped with refurbished, locally sourced vehicles. “All the Sienna vehicles given to these security outfits are old, driven in Nigeria, purchased, and refurbished locally,” Nwobu remarked.
Highlighting the government’s primary responsibility to ensure the security and welfare of its people, Nwobu argued that Soludo has “failed woefully” in this regard.
He accused the administration of hastily assembling an ill-equipped vigilante group close to the election period, deploying them with refurbished vehicles to patrol the streets, which he described as inadequate and ineffective.
Expressing confidence in the ADC’s prospects of unseating Soludo in the upcoming November 2025 governorship election, Nwobu positioned his party as a credible alternative to restore public trust in governance.
“Who feels secure in Anambra today? Nobody. How can you re-elect someone who cannot protect you? Insecurity is Soludo’s greatest bane,” he declared, underscoring the widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration’s security measures.
