Nollywood actress and producer, Dayo Amusa, has set the record straight regarding rumours about her HIV status, publicly sharing the results of her most recent test in an effort to end speculation.
The actress, who has been the subject of online chatter in recent weeks, took to her Instagram page on Tuesday to post a photo of her latest HIV screening result, which confirmed that she is HIV-negative.
The controversy began after TikTok content creator Olaoluwa Segun published a viral video in July 2025 naming Dayo Amusa among five Nigerian entertainers allegedly living with HIV. The video sparked widespread backlash, with many accusing Segun of spreading harmful and unverified claims about public figures.
In her response, Dayo Amusa described the allegation as “false and malicious,” emphasising that this was not the first time she had made her HIV status public.
“I already shared my HIV-negative test result in 2019, during a health campaign aimed at raising awareness,” she explained. “That post was to encourage people to know their status and break the stigma not because I was HIV positive.”
Amusa further revealed that she had reported Segun’s claims to the authorities and threatened to pursue legal action to make him “a scapegoat” for the spread of false information online.
Despite having previously addressed the issue, the actress said she decided to release her test result again to silence persistent rumours. Her Instagram post showed a photo of her negative test result along with a message encouraging fans and Nigerians to take HIV testing seriously.

“I still feel the need to encourage individuals to get tested and know their HIV status,” she wrote. “It is better to know your status so that you can guide yourself and save others too.”
The actress’s decision to make her medical status public once again has earned her widespread praise from fans, who commended her courage in using a personal attack as an opportunity to promote public health awareness.
Experts say Amusa’s response is a reminder of the importance of addressing HIV stigma in Nigeria. According to UNAIDS, Nigeria has one of the highest HIV burdens in the world, but testing and early detection remain key in reducing transmission and improving treatment outcomes.
Health advocates warn that unverified rumours about people’s HIV status can worsen discrimination and discourage individuals from getting tested or seeking treatment.
The incident also reignites conversations about misinformation and accountability on social media. Legal analysts note that Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act and laws on defamation allow victims of online slander to seek redress through the courts, though enforcement remains inconsistent.
Dayo Amusa’s case may serve as a precedent for other celebrities seeking to push back against damaging allegations.
For now, the actress appears focused on turning the controversy into a teachable moment, encouraging her fans to take control of their health while also warning content creators about the dangers of spreading unverified claims.
