Popular Nigerian TikToker, Olaoluwa Segun, has opened up about his harrowing experience at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Panti, following a petition filed against him by actress Dayo Amusa.
New Daily Prime recalls that in July 2025, Segun went viral after posting a list of Nigerian celebrities he alleged were living with HIV. Among those named was Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa, who swiftly denied the claim and threatened legal action.
Amusa clarified that she had only once made a post in 2019 about her HIV status, not as a revelation about her own health but to educate her followers on the importance of HIV awareness and stigma reduction. She vowed to make Segun “a scapegoat” for spreading what she described as defamatory claims.
Speaking in a video shared on Tuesday, Segun revealed that his online controversy eventually led to his arrest and detention after he honoured a police invitation over the petition.
“I was locked up in Panti for two days after I honoured the police invite over Dayo Amusa’s petition against me. This was the worst experience of my life after the death of my mum,” he recounted.

Segun gave a chilling description of the cell conditions, narrating how he was ordered to prostrate by one of the inmates as soon as he entered.
“There is no furniture in the cell, it has four pit latrines and one uncovered window where mosquitoes kept coming in,” he said. “I begged to use the pit latrine and they allowed me. You can’t imagine the terrible smell coming from the pit because there is no door separating the cell from the latrine. It’s like we were sleeping inside the toilet.”
According to Segun, the cell held about 60 people and was the same one where singer Naira Marley was reportedly kept during his 2019 arrest.
“We all slept on cold tiles,” he added. “Luckily, one of the leaders in the cell recognised me and said he was one of my followers on TikTok. He was the one who protected me from being treated like other newcomers.”
Despite his ordeal, Segun publicly expressed gratitude to Dayo Amusa for eventually withdrawing the petition, a decision that led to his release.
“I want to appreciate Aunty Dayo Amusa for changing her mind to forgive me. If not, I would have stayed there much longer,” he said.
Segun’s case has sparked renewed debate about freedom of expression on social media, defamation laws, and the consequences of unverified online claims.
Legal analysts warn that while social media provides a powerful platform for ordinary citizens to express themselves freely, content creators must exercise extra caution to avoid disseminating harmful or unsubstantiated information.
Dayo Amusa, a prominent figure in Nollywood, has remained firm on her stance against cyberbullying and online defamation, previously urging fans to resist sharing unverified health-related rumours about public figures.
While Segun’s release may mark the end of this specific saga, the case serves as a cautionary tale for digital creators and influencers who often post controversial content for engagement.
