Nigerian musician Terry Apala has stirred conversation online after revealing that he would never allow his partner to attend a public gym.
The Apala Disco crooner made the statement during a recent interview with Echo Room, hosted by reality TV star Teddy A.
Terry explained that his stance is based on his personal experiences, claiming that many women go to the gym for reasons other than working out.
“I will not allow my partner to go to the gym,” he said firmly. “I was a member of iFitness VGC, so I’ve been there. I saw what was going down. I feel like ladies of nowadays are just going to the gym to vibe and make videos. They’re not there to actually work out.”
The artist suggested that the modern gym culture has shifted from fitness to content creation and flirting. According to him, many women spend more time recording videos and posing for social media than focusing on exercise routines.
“If they really want to work out, they won’t be focused on doing videos,” he explained. “They are just there to seduce men because some men also go to the gym to look for women. I’m speaking from experience.”
Terry recounted his time as a gym member at two different locations, including Megamound Estate, where he said he witnessed what he described as distractions and unserious behavior.

“I saw things there,” he continued. “Girls go there to do all manner of things. A lot of ladies are just at the gym to have fun. Maybe a few ladies are going to the gym to actually work out, but many of them are just going there to enjoy the vibe.”
Despite the backlash, Terry stood by his comments, insisting that his opinion comes from firsthand experience and not from insecurity. For him, avoiding public gyms is a way of protecting his relationship and maintaining focus.
The singer, known for blending traditional Apala music with contemporary sounds, has often shared candid opinions on lifestyle and relationships, sparking conversations among fans.
Whether people agree or disagree, Terry Apala’s remarks have once again placed him at the center of public debate, this time on the intersection of fitness, social media culture, and modern relationships.
