Party insiders described the move as pivotal for mobilising resources and rallying support for the APCās yet-to-be-announced candidate in Anambra, where the party has made steady inroads despite the dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Otu, elected in 2023 under the APC banner, has built a reputation for prioritising infrastructure and economic revitalisation in Cross River.
His selection signalled the partyās confidence in his ability to bridge regional divides and appeal to Anambra voters.
āThis appointment is a testament to Governor Otuās proven leadership and commitment to the APCās progressive agenda,ā APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said in a statement, stressing that the councilās mandate was to secure a āresounding victoryā in the governorship election.
The inauguration came amid heightened political activity in Anambra, where incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of APGA is seeking re-election.
APC leaders view the election as a major opportunity to expand their footprint in the South-East, following recent successes in neighbouring states.
