The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old suspected human trafficker and rescued two teenage girls during a routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway.
The suspect, identified as Raymond Wonna from Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, was intercepted by operatives of the Command’s Crack Tactical Squad at about 2:00 p.m.on 30 July 2025. The victims, 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley, are also from Yala.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly lured the girls from Ogoja, Cross River State, to Ghana under the pretence of offering them employment in a restaurant owned by his partner.
According to the Force Spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, the victims families were reportedly unaware of the arrangement.

Ndukwe noted that Wonna lodged the girls in a hotel while awaiting departure, during which he allegedly attempted to rape them.
The victims have since been returned to their families, while efforts are under way to apprehend other members of the trafficking network.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Mamman Giwa, praised the operatives for their swift intervention and ordered a thorough investigation leading to prosecution.
He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to tackle human trafficking and violent crime, urging the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers.
