President Bola Tinubu has appointed Engr. Abdullahi Ramat as the Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), pending Senate confirmation.
Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator with a doctorate in Strategic Management.
His appointment is part of a broader effort by the Tinubu administration to strengthen the regulatory oversight of Nigeria’s electricity sector.

Tinubu also nominated Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services at NERC.
Both nominations, along with Ramat’s substantive role as CEO, are subject to approval by the Senate.
To prevent a leadership vacuum at the agency, Tinubu directed Ramat to assume office in an acting capacity, in line with legal provisions.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President urged the appointees to apply their expertise diligently in advancing his administration’s reform agenda in the power sector.
