MThe constituency office of Health Secretary Wes Streeting in Ilford North has been vandalised by a group identifying themselves as trans rage activists, prompting a police investigation.
The incident, which occurred early on Friday, August 1, involved smashed windows and graffiti painted across the front of the office. The words “child killer” were daubed on the building.
The activist group “Trans Bash Back” claimed responsibility for the act in a post on the social media platform BlueSky. Alongside a photo of the vandalised office, the group wrote: “Don’t want action? Don’t kill kids.
Report revealed that Glass was broken and there’s paint everywhere and this happened a few times when the window was replaced.”Wes Streeting, who has served as MP for Ilford North since 2015, responded on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “From day one as Ilford North’s MP I’ve had an accessible and visible constituency office to serve my local community. Repeated criminal damage is unfair to my staff and an attack on democracy. I will not be commenting further while there is a live police investigation.”
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called to the scene at 10:16am. A spokesperson said:
“Officers attended the scene, where they discovered that the address had been attacked with paint and the windows had been damaged. No one was injured. No arrests have been made at this early stage in the investigation.”
About the Group
Trans Bash Back describes itself as a “trans-led direct action project.” In its online materials, it characterises its methods as “nonviolent direct action” that is often risky and rarely legal. The group recently published a manifesto stating that organisation or politicians seeking to ban access to puberty blockers or define gender in restrictive legal terms should expect consequences.
In a statement on social media, the group said: “We refuse to sit and watch as trans young people have their healthcare stripped from them. We refuse to allow Streeting to cover up their suicides. We refuse to endure the violence and humiliation. They will have to go through us.”
Streeting, who retained his seat at the 2024 general election with a significantly reduced majority of just 528 votes, has previously faced criticism from some LGBTQ+ activists for his comments on gender identity. In a past radio interview, when asked if transgender women are women, he replied: “Men have penises, women have vaginas; here ends my biology lesson.”
The Labour Party confirmed that the matter is under police investigation but has not issued a detailed response to the claims made by the activist group.
A spokesperson for the party said: “This is now a matter for the police.”
