The primary objective is to tackle pressing fire safety challenges and promote a robust culture of prevention, preparedness, and mitigation, thereby enhancing resilience across Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, and beyond.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is slated to deliver the keynote address and officially open the conference.
LIFSC 2.0’s agenda includes insightful workshops, expert panel discussions, and state-of-the-art exhibitions.
Topics will span disaster risk management, safe handling of dangerous goods, live demonstrations of fire suppression technologies, and a showcase of advanced fire safety equipment.
Gbenga Oyerinde, the state Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, emphasised that the conference underscores Mr Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to public order and safety, as outlined in his THEMES Plus Agenda.
“The Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 2.0 is a cornerstone of our proactive approach to safeguarding lives, property, and the environment,” Mr Oyerinde stated.
“By fostering collaboration among stakeholders and empowering communities with knowledge, we are building a safer, more resilient Lagos for all.”
Sesan Ogundeko, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, highlighted the importance of the conference’s continuity in driving positive change within the state.
Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, noted that this year’s event builds on the success of LIFSC 1.0 in 2024, which attracted over 1,800 delegates.
Ms Adeseye stressed the focus on mitigation, revealing that ‘Carelessness accounts for over 80% of fire and related emergency incidents in Lagos.’
She added, “LIFSC 2.0 is our platform to drive home the message that ‘The best fire fought is the one prevented’ by equipping residents and businesses with the tools to mitigate fire risk effectively.”
Organisations, individuals, and interested stakeholders are encouraged to register for the conference via the official website: www.lifsc.org.
