The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the notice issued by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding its upcoming 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, citing failure to comply with procedural requirements.
In a letter dated 13 June 2025 and addressed to PDP National Chairman, the electoral body stated that the notification was invalid due to lack of proper endorsement.
The correspondence, signed by INEC’s Acting Secretary, Hajiya Hau’ru Aminu, pointed to a violation of the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
INEC specifically referenced Part 2(12)3, which stipulates that such notices must be jointly signed by both the National Chairman and the National Secretary of the party.

“The Commission draws your attention that the notice is not in compliance… Be guided,” the letter partly read.
PDP had, on 30 May 2025, notified INEC of its intention to hold the NEC meeting at its National Secretariat in Abuja.
Although the notice was submitted within the 21-day timeframe required by law, it was only signed by the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, without the mandatory co-signature of National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
The rejection raises questions about the legality of any decisions taken at the proposed NEC meeting, unless the proper procedure is followed.
