President Bola Tinubu has encouraged Africa’s emerging generation to take bold steps towards building a united, innovative, and thriving continent by making impactful contributions across key sectors.
The sectors include science, education, governance, entrepreneurship, and the creative arts.
Tinubu spoke throlugh the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Millennium Excellence Prize, held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Ghana.

Tinubu addressed dignitaries as the special guest of honour at the event.
He emphasised the need for collective action among African nations in shaping a common future.
He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional unity through his Renewed Hope Agenda—a policy framework aimed at promoting inclusive development, improving livelihoods, and positioning Nigeria as a cornerstone of continental leadership.
Calling on attendees to remain champions of excellence and mentorship, Tinubu urged continued investment in youth empowerment and stronger cross-border partnerships.
He also extended his appreciation to the Life Patron of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, for hosting the prestigious gathering and for recognising outstanding achievements across the continent.
Reflecting on the history of the awards, which began in 1988, he said the initiative has served as a powerful platform for acknowledging individuals who have made meaningful contributions to Africa’s development.
He commended the Foundation for upholding values such as integrity, service, and leadership.
“I commend those whose vision brought this institution to life and sustained it over the past 25 years,” he said.
“The principles it stands for mirror the hopes and ambitions of Nigeria and indeed all of Africa.”
He further praised the Foundation for honouring inspirational figures, citing past laureates like Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Wole Soyinka, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Dr Mo Ibrahim as icons whose legacies have left lasting impressions on the continent.
Tinubu extended congratulations to the organisers, the Life Patron, and both previous and newly named award recipients.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu accepted the Lifetime Africa Achievement Prize on his behalf.
Among other Nigerians recognised at the event were Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM), who received the Global Intra-Africa Trade Excellence Award; Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, who was honoured for Governance and Public Service; BUA Group Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, who earned recognition for Business Excellence; and Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, who was celebrated for his role in Traditional Leadership and Business.
